Born in 1957, David Smith has studied at various colleges in Glasgow including the Glasgow School of Art and the Glasgow Print Studio. Predominantly a landscape artist, the palette and inspiration of his work is taken from the seaboard and landscape of Scotland and the fishing villages of the East coast. His use of bold and striking colour combined with textured brush work creates his own distinctive style.

Davie Smith exhibits in galleries throughout the United Kingdom and in the annual exhibitions of the RGI and PAI. He has also shown with the RSA and RSW and has work in private collections.
He was awarded the David Cargill prize at the 2001 RGI annual exhibition and is the current president of the Glasgow Group of Artists.
